Up next in our set of rule breakers: Tejano music legend Selena Quintanilla. Leah walks us through her record breaking short career, including how she paved a path for women in Tejano music, as well as how she revolutionized fashion and entrepreneurship.
Selena was born to be a star, and her family did everything within their power to make that dream come true. However, at the young age of 23, she was murdered by a woman she considered to be one of her close friends and business partners.
In her career, Selena won 36 Tejano Music Awards, 14 Billboard Latin Music Awards, 10 Lo Nuestro Awards, two Grammys, five BMI Awards and one award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.
